This documentary film by Freya Klier was screened to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the June 17 uprising in 1953. Friedrich Voit of the University of Auckland School of European Languages & Literatures introduced the film with information about Freya Klier, her work and her special link with New Zealand.

Broke but Sexy is a documentary about the growing number of New Zealand artists in Berlin. Julie Hill, the maker of the film, talked about its production as well as the artists' impressions of living and working in Germany. A great night! Thank you Julie. On 29 May, New Zealand German scholar Alan Kirkness gave a fascinating talk on the origins of the most comprehensive German dictionary in existence. He shared details about the lives of the Grimm brothers, two very interesting characters, who started the dictionary in 1838. Alan also talked about the lost editions of Grimm's German dictionary that were found in Poland only a few years ago. A great evening! Thank you Alan!

Am Sonntag, den 19. Mai, trafen sich 12 unserer Mitglieder zu einem Wanderausflug in den Waitakeres. Während der Wanderung wurde ausschließlich Deutsch gesprochen. Trotz des schlechten Wetters vor und nach der Wanderung hatten wir unterwegs gutes Wetter und viel Freude. Herzlichen Dank an Nathalie!

Olaf und Oranna hießen uns in ihrem Café herzlich willkommen und berichteten von Ihren Erfahrungen, ein Geschäft in Neuseeland zu eröffnen. Es war eine tolle Gelegenheit für uns, die beiden persönlich kennenzulernen, untereinander Deutsch zu plaudern und deutsche Backwaren zu genießen.

Students of German at the University of Auckland talked about their experiences as exchange students in Germany on DAAD scholarships.

„Choose a city you are really passionate about! There was history everywhere, at every corner, they have really preserved their past...”, „Get a German-German dictionary!”, „I just spent 500 Euro of my own money!” Rund um viele praktische Tipps und Infos zu Stipendien für einen Sprachkurs oder akademischen Aufenthalt in Deutschland ging’s auf unserer Veranstaltung am 16. April. Junge Studierende der Uni Auckland berichteten über ihre persönlichen Erlebnisse als DAAD-Stipendiaten: von der Bewerbung über die Reiseplanung und Zeit in Deutschland bis zum Rückflug.
Wer den Infoabend verpasst hat, aber mit einem kurzen oder längeren Studienaufenthalt in Deutschland per Stipendium liebäugelt, besucht den DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) online oder kontaktiert 360° Auckland Abroad.

Mawil and Line, two German comic book artists, gave us a personal tour of their exhibition at the St Paul St Gallery.

Mawil und Line, zwei deutsche Künstler, gaben uns am 6. März eine persönliche Führung durch ihre Ausstellung und erzählten aus ihrem Leben als Comic-Zeichner.
Danach begleiteten sie uns noch zu unserem Stammtisch. Ein toller Abend!
