Zum Auftakt unserer Veranstaltungsreihe 2013 luden wir am 27. Februar die Auckländer Filmemacherin Lauren Jackson ein. Gerade frisch zurück aus Berlin erzählte sie uns über ihre Eindrücke und Erlebnisse auf der 63. Berlinale, auf der ihr Regiedebüt „Heute bin ich bei Mama“ („I’m Going to Mum’s“, Neuseeland 2012) Weltpremiere hatte.

Die „Internationalen Filmfestspiele Berlin“ finden alljährlich im Februar statt und zählen mit den internationalen Filmfestivals in Cannes und Venedig zu den drei bedeutendsten weltweit. Lauren Jacksons 13-Minüter wurde als einer von 19 Kurzfilmen in der Sektion „Generation Kplus“ Zuschauern ab acht Jahren gezeigt. 

Protagonist des sensiblen Streifens ist Jacob, der eine Nacht bei Papa und eine Nacht bei Mama schläft. Seine Eltern tragen einen Scheidungskrieg über Jacobs Kleidung aus, bis dem Jungen das zu bunt wird und in den Klamottenstreit tritt. So bringt das Kind schließlich die Erwachsenen dazu, wieder miteinander zu reden.

Unsere Veranstaltungsbesucher hatten auf dem Epsom-Campus die besondere Gelegenheit, der Regisseurin, Bühnenautorin, Schauspielerin und Schauspiellehrerin rund um die Berlinale, Berlin und ihr Regiedebüt Fragen zu stellen. Die Auckland Goethe Society dankt Lauren Jackson ganz herzlich für einen tollen Abend!

2012 events

Events in 2012 included:

• In April an author reading was held by Berlin-based German novelist Inka Parei. She read parts from her recent books in German and English and shared a drink with Goethe Society members afterwards.
• In May, five Auckland secondary schools participated in the annual Goethe Society German Quiz. This  event is highly competitive and a lot of fun. Be prepared for the upcoming quiz in 2013.
• Also in May, three New Zealand students illustrated their personal impressions of Germany, after returning from courses and scholarships they attended in Leipzig, Essen and Freiburg.
• August offered a number of cultural highlights for members of the Goethe Society. Starting with a fascinating seminar on German Samoa, continuing with a reading by poet Michael Hofmann, followed by  a theatrical reading from Schnitzler’s play Reigen, and finishing with six student performances of the memorable production 'Currywurst mit Pommes: Satirische Momentaufnahmen am Rand einer deutschen Autobahn', by Frank Pinkus and Nick Walsh.
• An inaugural lecture was held in September on ‘“The Magic Lake”: Fontane’s last novel The Stechlin (1899) and its message for the twentieth century and beyond’.
• Also in September, the German poet Jan Wagner gave a lively seminar, in which he read selections of his poetry, in both the original German and the English translation.
• In October, top students received their prizes for the annual Goethe Society secondary school examinations.
• In November, the 200th anniversary of the appearance of Grimms’ classic collection of tales, was celebrated with a lecture on ‘The Missing Fairies of Grimms’ Fairytales’.
