Welcome Lunch at UoA (18th March 2025)

Welcome to the new semester and the Academic Year 2025!

After the first exciting weeks back on campus after the summer break, all new and experienced students of University of Auckland’s German Programme were invited to join for a “Welcome Lunch” on March 18.

With the support of the School of Cultures, Languages and Linguistics of UoA and the DAAD, the Auckland Goethe Society organized an event to show the broad span of options with German at our uni and abroad in Germany.

Stephan, in his role as program director and committee member of AGS, presented study options and introduced the Auckland Goethe Society to all new students. Mareike gave insights into opportunities to go abroad. Josh introduced the German Drama Company as an excellent chance to socialize and get together with other German speakers and learners while creating a German play.

After the talks, the audience got to know each other and asked more specific questions while enjoying coffee, juice, and pizza.

About 20-25 interested people joined the event in person on UoA’s City Campus

Film Screening: When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit (July 24th 2024)

The Auckland Goethe Society hosted a film screening of the 2019 award winning German drama film, When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit (Als Hitler das rosa Kaninchen stahl), directed by Caroline Link. The film was kindly supplied by the Goethe Institut.

The film is based on the international best-selling children's book and semi-autobiographical novel by Judith Kerr. A Jewish family flees Berlin on the evening of the election in 1933. They initially settle in Zürich before moving to Paris, and finally, to London.
