Join us for an evening with Dr John Jamieson!
Working from over 20 languages into English – German being one of them – and having been in the business from the days of manual typewriters through to the rise of AI, you could say John knows a thing or two about translation. He has a particular interest in how languages and translation work and how languages relate to worldview. He enjoys discussing differences between languages and the challenges they create for the translator.
Dr John Jamieson is a founding member of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters. He studied French and completed a PhD at Otago University, and also studied Russian at Victoria University. He began his career at the Department of Internal Affairs and has since worked in house at NZTC New Zealand Translation Centre and for himself as a freelance translator. He is knowledgeable in many European languages from the Germanic, Romance, Slavic and Scandinavian branches and beyond, as well as several Polynesian languages.
Whether you're a language enthusiast, a student or a professional translator, this will be an engaging evening for everyone.
Light refreshments will be provided. To attend this event online, please register for an 'Online' ticket and a Zoom link will be emailed to you.
